Update: The IE9 team has published a blog post going into further detail on the features shown today.

Today, when speaking at the PDC, Steven Sinofsky has officially announced plans for the next version of IE: Internet Explorer 9. Sinofsky stated that IE 9 is currently 3 weeks into development, so there weren’t any major breakthroughs or amazing rendering engine/performance improvements as of yet, but he made it pretty clear that their ultimate goal was to improve the rendering engine and speed up your web browsing experience.
